Johnson City is small but packed with Hill Country history. It’s the hometown of President Lyndon B. Johnson, and you can tour the LBJ National Historical Park to see where he grew up. The town also has a growing wine and distillery scene, plus the Science Mill, which is great if you’re exploring with kiddos. It’s an easy half-hour drive and a fun combination of history, nature, and tasting rooms.
Blanco, TX
Blanco is known for its namesake river and the beautiful state park that sits right on it. If you want a quiet afternoon outdoors, you can swim, walk the river trail, or just take in the views.
